Cryptocurrency in the United States deceased estates
Crypto as estate property
Cryptocurrency is a personal property asset under United States law and must be included in a deceased estate. Executors have a legal duty to identify, preserve, and account for all digital assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, NFTs, and DeFi holdings.
The access problem
Unlike bank accounts, cryptocurrency requires a private key or seed phrase to access. Without this, assets can be permanently locked. We specialize in recovering access through hardware analysis, partial credential reconstruction, and exchange account procedures.
Probate and estate administration
We provide formal valuation and asset discovery reports that meet the requirements of the United States probate courts, attorneys, and accountants - supporting smooth estate administration and minimising legal delays.
Our 10% recovery fee model
We charge no upfront fees. Our fee is 10% of the total value of cryptocurrency successfully recovered. If we cannot recover the assets, you pay nothing. This aligns our incentives with yours.
No will - intestacy
If there is no will, the estate is distributed under United States intestacy rules. The appointed administrator has the same obligations as an executor to locate and account for all assets including cryptocurrency. We work alongside administrators and their legal advisers in all cases.
